An <strong>undermount<\/strong> sink is attached beneath the worktop, leaving the cut edge visible. With a <strong>flush-mount<\/strong> installation, a recess around the opening allows the sink rim to sit level with the surface.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A low-profile top-mounted rim is not automatically flush-mounted: even a very thin rim can still sit above the surface. Franke distinguishes a low top-mounted rim from a recessed flush installation. Ask for a section drawing or a physical example of the proposed junction.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"blog-section-2\">Top-mount: the rim remains visible<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A top-mount sink drops into the opening from above. The worktop and sink meet beneath the rim; how that connection is sealed and fixed depends on the selected system. BLANCO describes top-mounting as an option for a range of worktops, including many laminate surfaces.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The visible rim influences the look and needs attention when cleaning. For an existing opening, check exact dimensions, corner shapes and space for the tap before selecting a replacement. A similar overall size does not guarantee that a new sink will fit an old cut-out.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"blog-section-3\">Undermount: the worktop meets the opening<\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With an undermount sink, the fixing is below the worktop. The worktop\u2019s cut edge remains exposed and needs an appropriate finish. BLANCO shows that the relationship between worktop and bowl can vary: part of the sink rim may show, align closely, or sit beneath an overhanging edge.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask the worktop supplier whether the specific material, edge finish and fixing are suitable. An example made from another composite or laminate is not approval for your particular worktop. This requires accurate measurements and a worktop suitable for the chosen machining and installation. The sink can visually merge with the surface, but the connection around it still needs appropriate finishing and care.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confirm who will make the cut-out and which template or file applies to this exact sink model. Look at the real edge detail and see how a cloth moves across the transition. A raised top-mount rim can interrupt that movement; undermount and flush-mount edges create different transitions. None removes the need to clean the joint and the sink.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask which cleaning products suit both the worktop and sink, and how the joint should be maintained. For selected wood and laminate worktops, IKEA recommends sealing to help prevent moisture damage; follow the instructions for your actual combination. Check room for the tap, cabinet and any equipment beneath the surface.
